About

Hi, I am Derek Sandy, originally from the beautiful islands of Trinidad and Tobago.  I moved to the Isle of Wight in November 2002.  I only planned a short 6 month visit but 22 years later, I am still here!  My passion has always been singing and when I had the opportunity to sing on the Island, I grasped this with both hands and took the Island by storm with my upbeat reggae tempo.

In May 2008, I released my first original album Dancing in Heaven which featured the iconic Welcome to the Isle of Wight song which has become the Island’s national anthem and is still my most requested song to date.

You may have seen me on Come Dine With Me that was aired in January 2012.  I have also appeared on Come Dine With Me Champions this being screened in 2016.  My latest claim to fame being my appearance on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) in the 2019 series.  What an amazing experience that was.  On BGT I sang Welcome to the Isle of Wight, which caused an absolute storm and crashed the tourism website. From this success for tourism, I was honoured as an official Ambassador for the Island by the Isle of Wight Council.  I was also delighted to be awarded the Isle of Wight Radio, Local Hero’s award being crowned the Tourism Ambassador in November 2019.  In 2022, I was decorated by a Ryde Citizen’s award from Ryde Town Council for services to the community for my “Love Monday” social gatherings on Ryde seafront.  Love Monday’s is a popular free community event during the summer months and has been ongoing since the summer of 2006.

Most recently, I hosted my own talent show on the Island which was featured on Channel 5’s Jewel of the South.

I am available for all of your entertainment needs, whether this be weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or if you just want to get together and have a good old time.  I have even performed at funerals.
